happy may day!

hello hello:)

how's everyone doing? can't believe we have come to the middle of the year already, few more months in a blink and its hello to UK, for the 3 of us.
anyway, i recently took part in this national health research study at NUS, as a research "material". the objective of the research study is to study the link between people of all ages, races, religion, diet, lifestyle and the more common diseases in sg like diabetes, stroke, heart diseases etc.
yupp, so i got to take blood test (6 tubes!), urine test, doppler ultrasound, foot sensation and also took a photograph of the back of the eye. i had my first try of a different way of taking blood. cos instead of the usual syringe, they insert this needle (that look like those inserted into the veins of the dorsum) with a hose-like tube and the blood is sucked out by vaccum into the blood tubes.
(unfortunately, i had brusing after that haha)

the doppler ultrasound test was interesting too. the person applied some gel near my brachial pulse and the dorsalis pedis pulse, then place this probe onto it. i get to hear the peripheral pulses on the machine, and see the pulse waveform on the screen. so cool, cos i have not heard peripheral pulses before. sounds like whipping sound to me.

for the foot sensation test, its similar to those sensory test we do on the feet during OSCE, using the filament and a machine that is adjusted from no vibration to different levels of vibration, to test for vibration sense.

that's pretty much all for the tests. took part in this research study, since i have nothing to lose (except my blood) and its all part of research anyway.

yupp, work's ending in 2 months time for me! finally, i get to have free time after that :) hope everyone finds joy at whatever at hand, be it posting, work or plain enjoying life as it is :)

medical conference in 2 weeks time, till then do we meet again!
cheers:)
